Hoping to be towing about 3000 to 3500 pounds up and down a ramp and on flat roads for no more than 40 miles. All this would only be once in a while.
1. Would a 2 wheel drive with a 4.0 be enough or would it be better to get a 4 wheel drive ? 2. Would an empty bed cause problems with traction with the back tires ? 3. Is a 4.0 necessary or would a 2.3 be enough ? Last edited by sbcma; 01-15-2012 at 09:34 PM. |

the 2.3 would be worked to death towing that much... as far as towing an empty bed would be ok to tow with because the trailer is going to weigh it down.... and a 2 wd would work good but i would say you might wanna check into getting electric brakes and brake controller installed to help with slowing your truck down....

An automatic will also produce a lot more heat than a manual so if you go that route you should look into a tow package with a trans cooler.
