Default Dash Lights

A couple of the lights behind the dash that illuminate the spedometer and the gauges are out on my 1999 Ranger. I'm just wondering if they are pretty easy to replace. It looks like there are 3 screws on top to remove and I'm just wondering if there is much more to it before I take anything apart. Thanks

You need to take the dash out. ford engineers were on crack when they developed this.

not too sure the exact mechanics on a 99
havent worked on older models.

They are simple to replace. Take the bottom knee panel off and you will have to take the 2 bolts off the hood release lever, Unscrew the radio bezel and slide it out about 2 inches, then take the speedo surround off (behind the steering wheel) then it should be 4 screws to take the speedo cluster out. Spin the cluster around and twist the bulbs out. There should be 6 all together so you may as well replace them all. You get can bulbs cheap at any autoparts store. I forget what size it is but if you take one with you they will match it up

Might as well go LED while you're changing them.

Is all of that the same for the 04 models? I'm thinking about changing the color of mine to blue to match the exterior

I'm not too sure on the bulb setup on the 04's but taking it apart is the same way just check how many bulbs there are and you can even swap them for LED bulbs of different colors too

Oh, thread moved to interior section

I believe all the clusters have 6 bulbs for "dash illumination", they'll be the larger (normally black, sometimes gray) bulb holders.
