Default Crank sensor

We replaced the crank sensor in our 04 ranger and it wont start. When we put the old sensor back on the thing starts right up. What is our problem?

I hate to say it but i'd say the new sensor isn't working. Why did you replace the sensor in the first place, if the old one is still working?
