Factory Fog Lights - Ford Ranger Forum

My truck did not come installed with factory fog lights, although it looks like a harness is there. It looks like it is an easy install upgrade. Is buying the housing all that's required?

I have a 2009 Ford Ranger XLT.

That's strange should not all model have fog lights ?
do you have a front bumper 4 them ?
if not talk to the dealership

It seems like they are available with or without that option as several of them didn't have fog lights. I am curious if it is just wiring up the pigtails to make it work.

How does the 09 differ from the 08?

my 08 FX4 has fog lights. to turn them on, the headlight switch is pulled out when the switch is rotated to the right. they only operate on low beam. you may just need to upgrade the switch when you install the fog lights, hoping the wires are already there. good luck

Check under the hood to make sure that there is a fuse and/or relay in place where the fog light circut is. This will give you a good indication as to what you may or may not need to add. If there is a relay there, than you know all the wiring is present. If not, peer down into the socket and see if the wires are all there just no relay (unlikely but possible).

I see the pigails for them...just unsure about the relay.

In the engine compartment there is a box with a lid that pops up with a set of relays and major and minor fuses and relays. There should be a schematic or list of what is what that each fuse or relay in the box does. If your truck has an empty slot for a relay or fuse in the slot marked "fog lights" you can get a relay for under twenty bucks to plug in there. If there already is one there cool, then do a test to see if there is power at the pigtails behind your bumper. A simple continuity tester, the inexpensive probe with a grounding clip and point with a light in it will work just fine. If your bumper does not have a valance on it with mounting holes built in for fog lights you can get one from many online suppliers or local auto parts stores. Shop around and you should be able to get one that fits your truck. Another thing, at least on my Ranger, is a button on the dash for turning the lights on and off. It needs to be set in the on position for the lights to work at all. When on the fog lights should come on when you turn your light switch parking lights and when on low beams. I hope this helps you figure your next steps in your project.

Thank you so much...that helps out a lot.

Final question...how similar are the 2008 and 2009 rangers? Can I use those parts? I am in need of the part numbers to the factory fog lights.
