Hopefully a simple question. I have a 2000 3.0 and I want to replace the original headlights with something more powerful. What are my choices if I just want to change out the type of bulb? Am I restricted to the same type of light as the original? I don't want to change the assembly and get into hundreds of dollars. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Seems like stock bulbs are 55/65w (I could be mistaken) I don't think I would go with a higher wattage bulb, just to reduce the risk of melting the wiring.
I've been using some "Xenon White" bulbs I got on evilBay a year or so ago, these are the blue tinted ones. They seem much brighter/whiter than my old bulbs, but they don't seem to be as bright right at dusk. In total darkness, they're great though. I'm pretty happy with them, especially since they were only about $12 a pair. Heard good things about the silver star ultras as far as light output goes, but if you read the back of the package (or online) they have a very short life expectancy which is a huge drawback on bulbs that cost $40+/- a set.

I have HID`s in my 2001 ranger. I`ve read all the negative comments about glare and running them in the stock housings but I dont really care. If you aim them down to where they are suppose to be there fine. I have`nt been flashed once and have had them for over 2 yrs. Its an option if you want something brighter and last alot longer then silverstars. HID come in 35w or 55w but the 35w are bright enough.

Guys, are we really answering the OP's question, or just discussing bulbs to ourselves, seeing as the OP's question was asked over 15 months ago and he only had one post since then
