I found a 2001 ranger extended step side body is mint 900 bucks....here's the problem it idles great and first little bit of throttle is ok the all goes bad starts stumbling very badly and smoking a whiteish smoke but no smell to it. Trying to decide if I should buy it in the hopes it isn't a serous problem...

Might be burning antifreeze. Probably a head gasket. It's not a very hard job if you know what your doin. I've done a couple of them. Just make sure you know what the torque specs are for the heads. If you crank the bolts down too much you will warp the heads.

The head gasket would make sence because that smoke is very hot like steam so I'm thinkin you guys are right. So I'm thinking that it would be a good deal still

I wouldn't take it to a shop. They will over charge you like crazy. If you do it yourself it would be a good deal

sounds to me that is a gasket or a craked head. you can do the head wor at home if you have the time and the tools.. but for 900 if thats all thats wrong i would say go for it man

Just bring it by a mechanic you know and have him look it over. Mine does appraisals for like 20 bucks and then youll know if its that and or if something else is about to die. You can fix it all yourself but it's good to know what youre buying

I think I'm going to try and get it just trying to sell some of my toys to pay for it. Yes I will be doing the work myself there is no hurry to get it done. The body looks good no rust I could see no dings it was just a quick look but I will look it over good before I buy it. It is a 4 liter automatic. No there is a small black box stuck on the bottom of the dash with numbers 1 to 4 on it and the wires go up behind the dash there is know writing on it just a red light and 4 buttons one under each number. I have know idea what it is.
