oil useage - Ford Ranger Forum

I have a 93 4.0 its using a Quart of oil about every 1000 miles!.
it dont leak it dont smoke or blow oil, tail pipes dry only 144,000 on motor........... any ideas?????

A buddy had a similar problem a few years ago. Not burning oil and no leaks in the usual places (gaskets, seals, etc.). Turned out he had a hole in the oil pan. Replaced the oil pan and the thing didn't use a drop.

Are you using synthetic oil or conventional? because when synthetic burns it doesn't smell or smoke.
