Angry RABS problem 1997 Ranger

Forum: I have a 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0 with the rear ABS (RABS) system. The ABS light comes on and stays on if the parking brake is depressed (on) at start up or if it is pressed after start up. The ABS light does not come on if started with the park brake off and does not come on when braking. Anyone experience this before? What could cause this? Thanks.

don't start it with the brake on, or push the brake while it's running and you're good... Just kidding, it takes some time to get an answer as pointed out due to this being a new site and although I don't have a clue, somebody does.

when the parking brake is on pull the lever to release it and with your foot push the parking break further up while holding the lever open and hopefully your brake light will turn off.

Thumbs up RABS follow up

Thanks for the input. My problem was with the resistor that is located in the main fuse box under the hood. $13 part from Ford. Was able to diagnose after receiving a shop manual CD puirchased on-line.

oooh, someone with a CD full of Ranger info.......Maybe someday I'll ask what all they say causes my ABS light to stay on all of the time and then why my check engine light comes on and off and on and off. Then maybe I can pull the electrical tape off of my dash........

WesternPaRanger, start with cleaning the sensors, two for the front and one in the back. CEL, have the system scanned, some auto parts stores do it for free to sell the parts.
