I hope someone has an idea what is wrong with my 92 Ranger (165k). It starts up fine, but then the voltage drops really low (9 or 10V) and will sputter and die when slowing or stopped unless I give it some gas, at which point the voltage will surge up to 13V or so. As long as I'm giving it a little gas, it'll stay running just fine. This happens for the first 5 minutes or so, then everything clears up and it can idle without giving it gas (and the Voltage will stay high). The check engine light comes on after about 10 minutes, but I don't notice any problems with how it is running. I have a constant whining that I think is the fuel pump, but not 100%. I've taken it into the shop (not a dealer shop) several times to fix it, but whatever they are doing isn't working. I'm not very knowledgeable about trucks, but am hoping someone here can give me a clue about what is happening so I can at least tell the shop what to possibly look for.
Thanks, -Chris Mikaitis |
