Default 1983 single barrel carb

I had a carb rebuilt (6 months ago) and now it is running rich, choke stays on too long, and once choke is off, idles down but has like a miss.(original reason I had it rebuilt and as it almost dies)
It doesn't die now but still has a miss (mechanic adjusted it and ran better but that was 4 months ago) getting worse.
Took it back to mechanic, but now he tells me that he doesn't really work on older vehicles and to take it somewhere else.

Vehicle is a 2.0 with a little over 55,000 original miles on it.
5 speed, no power anything.

I looked for cracked hoses but didn't find anything. I have a Chilton book but not following the diagrams that well.

What other things should I check. I don't do well with carbs.....

Have you checked the gasket for a flush fit and seal?

I didn't because mechanic checked it after he rebuilt it and it ran pretty good. It did leak so he had to pull it off again and it ran good afterwards.
Are you thinking maybe he punched a little hole it it?
I will get a new one and replace it.

Thanks,
Buddy

Yeah I had an old truck with that issue, seemed like no matter what we did the carb never seated right and would come loose, popping the gasket every 3 months

I ended up selling it lol!! Try looking into after market carbs instead of the OEM ones, you may get a good fix using them
