Default Fuel Tank Replacement

I recently purchased 1987 standard cab 108 inch wheelbase 4x4. I have been surching for a fuel tank that fits. All tanks listed are in the 50 to 51 inch lenghth range. This does not fit my truck as the original is around 44 inches. Does anyone have a solution for this or heard of this. To use the larger available tank requires cutting out a crossmember. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks

Not really the expert, but would believe the truck is a truck, the larger tank would be form fitted or moulded around this cross member. Ask for a PIC to see the contour of it.

Today I pulled the tank of my 96. I will check my 87 and see the difference.

I have a '86 extended cab that I bought a new fuel tank for and It is the kind that is sideways under the bed. The one you have is it under the cab? This where I bought mine Auto Parts Warehouse. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...t:Fuel+Tank%29

Mine is the one listed first $83 free delivery and had it in 3 days and I ordered a fuel pump and got it in 2 days. Surprised at how fast the parts came. Anyways look towards the end of the list and they have the more square looking tanks. That might be what you are looking for.
