Default Ticking at high rpm?

I have a '88 with the 2.9. It runs fine except for when I travel at above about 2500 rpm for more than 5 minutes it will start to tick and wont stop until I stop. I've made sure theres enough oil and changed the oil and it didn't help. Any idea what else could be causing this? Thanks
